A porter is a great addition to your trek since they know shortcuts and lessen your luggage’s weight. They can also speak basic English and are less expensive than licensed guides. Almost all tea houses have hot shower facilities. They are less expensive in the lower areas and more expensive in the higher regions. The higher areas are a little more difficult to find running water so you will have to pay extra for this convenience.
Three passes
Three passes on the EBC Trek is one of the most challenging treks in the world. It takes you over three high passes and has an average elevation of 4,800 meters. This trek is best done in the fall or spring, when the weather is cooler and the clouds have dissipated. Avoid summer, which is monsoon season in Nepal. Winter is less popular, but it offers excellent weather and fewer tourists. It costs between $800 and $1,000 for the entire itinerary.
The first pass, Kongma La, is the highest point of the entire trek. The view from the top of this pass is breathtaking. You can see Ama Dablam, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. This trek also takes you to the picturesque village of Chukung Ri. You will also find an impressive monastery in this village. Afterwards, you will return to Dingboche.
The Three Passes Trek is the perfect trek for anyone looking for the ultimate Everest experience. It combines mountain scenery with the rich Sherpa culture. It’s one of the more difficult teahouse treks in Nepal, and three passes over 5,000 meters will challenge you and give you amazing views. You can start the trek from Jiri or Lukla. The latter option will save you plane tickets.
Gokyo Lakes
The EBC Trek to Gokyo Lakes is one of the most rewarding journeys to take in the Everest region. Unlike the traditional route to Everest base camp, this trek takes you up into the serene Gokyo valley. After passing through the crowded Khumbu valley, you’ll reach the tranquil lakes of Gokyo Valley.
After the first two lakes, you’ll walk up a steep hillside to reach Dughla, a small settlement. After the isolation of the previous two days, you’ll feel as though you’ve reached a metropolis! Continuing on, you’ll pass the fourth and fifth lakes, Cho Oyu and Tsemo Chho. In addition to the two sacred lakes, you’ll also be treated to a spectacular view of the magnificent Everest Range from here.
If you’d like to hike the Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes together, it’s possible to combine them into a single trip, also known as the Everest Circuit. It’s a challenging trek, which ends at the base camp at 5,330 meters. It includes a visit to Cho La (17487 ft.) at the base of Mount Everest.
Altitude challenge
To survive the Altitude Challenge on the EBC Trek, you should have good cardiovascular fitness and a good general health. You should be able to hike for long distances and perform aerobics. You should be able to climb steep gym machines, and you should have strong legs and back. You should also be able to walk for long distances (about 12km) on consecutive days.
The Everest Base Camp Trek begins with a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, a small Himalayan town at double the altitude of Kathmandu. It requires two weeks to complete the entire trek, and it requires adequate physical fitness. Although the altitude is a serious challenge, the trek is not impossible for most trekkers.
The first part of the trek is acclimatization, requiring a minimum of three days before you start the trek. You will need to trek from Lukla to Namche Bazaar over a period of twelve to fourteen days, depending on the distance traveled each day. You will spend eight to ten miles per day and spend about thirteen to sixteen hours walking. The trek is an arduous one, and you will need to rest at night to recover.
Best time to trek
There are many reasons to trek the Everest Base Camp (EBC) route. A few of the best reasons are: the trail is relatively uncrowded, and the views are breathtaking. Additionally, the monsoon season lasts from June to early September. However, this time of year is more likely to bring muddy conditions and landslides on the trail. This can make it difficult to enjoy the mountain views, but trekking in this season is perfectly safe if you plan carefully. Besides, temperatures are much warmer during this time of year.
Autumn is another good time for EBC Trek. While it is not as cold or crowded as other seasons, autumn is a more stable time for hiking. Temperatures are more moderate during this time, and there are fewer clouds and rain showers. Moreover, lodges and guesthouses are more readily available during this time. Even though the weather can be unpredictable around Everest, it is often the best time of year to trek the EBC.
Depending on your fitness level and your experience level, you can easily complete the EBC trek in a few days. However, you should make sure to train and acclimatize for the journey beforehand. It is not advisable to go on the trek without a guide or porter. Also, remember to pack enough food and water for a long trek.
